Legendary Italian fashion house Fiorucci introduced the Milan style set to the Swinging Sixties when it opened in 1967. But it was the opening of a New York outpost in the 1970s that turned Fiorucci into the hottest label in the world. The shop on East 59th Street, which became a kind of daytime Studio 54, attracted New York’s hippest crowd including Andy Warhol, Gloria Vanderbilt and a young Madonna and Marc Jacobs. The fast moving, trend-focused style of the label kept it at the top of people’s wish lists way into the 1980s. Now under the ownership of Japan’s Edwin jeans, the brand seems ready for a comeback with a fashion-focused collection and a good dose of that old Fiorucci glamour.
